WHAT IS COMMUNITY?

1. A grouping ‘of people who live close to one another and are united by common interest and mutual aid.
2. A combination of Social units and system which perform the major social function {and) the organization of social activities.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT?

• Community development: as an educational process to enable citizens to address problems by group decision making
• Community development: p process to achieve improvement in some aspect of community life where normally such action leads to the strengthening of the community’s pattern of human and institutional relationships. 

TYPES OF COMMUNITY CAPITAL

• Human capital: labor supply, skills, capabilities, and experiences
• Physical capital: buildings, strees, and infrastucture
• Financial capital: community financial institutions, micro loan funding
• Environmental Capital: Weather, natural resource, recreational opportunities

Bonding capital : ties within homogeneous groups (ethnicities, social action committees, or people of similar socio-economic status) 
Bridging capital : ties among different groups
